Our family hotel,
a welcome for yours.
Hotel Taktsang is a family-run hotel in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh — sixty-two cosy rooms across two blocks at ten thousand feet above the sea. We believe in warm rooms, hot showers at six in the morning, and a quick drive to the monastery before the clouds come in. If you’re planning a trip to Tawang, we’d love to have you.
A small hotel, run by a family.
Tawang sits in the far north-western corner of Arunachal Pradesh — a Monpa and Buddhist heartland of monasteries, chortens and prayer flags, with traditions far older than the road that brought you here. Our hotel stands on a quiet patch of elevated ground at Tembrow, about three kilometres from the famous Tawang Monastery. We’ve been welcoming travellers here for roughly two decades.
Even as we’ve grown to sixty-two rooms across two blocks, our family still runs the place ourselves — so the same faces greet you each morning, and we actually remember how you take your tea. No giant reception desks, no impersonal check-in queues. Just a warm hello, a quick chat, and your key.
At ten thousand feet, what really matters isn’t the decor — it’s the basics done well. So we put extra effort into two things that aren’t always reliable in the Himalayas: hot water, 24 hours a day, from our own dedicated boiler, and power backup around the clock, for when the valley grid takes one of its Himalayan breaks. A hot shower after a day on the road is the whole point.
Everything else we arrange for you from reception: Inner Line Permits, airport or railway pickups, a reliable taxi, a guide who knows the old stories, restaurants in town, a doctor if you need one. Ask us anything — that’s what we’re here for.

Tashi Delek — and welcome.
“Tashi Delek” is our local greeting. It means may all auspicious signs come to this meeting. We say it when you arrive, when you leave, and at the thousand small moments in between — a cup of tea poured, a bag carried up the stairs, a monastery door held open.
We say it to every guest who walks through our door, and we mean it the way our neighbours mean it: as a small, steady wish that your days here are kind to you. We can keep the rooms warm. The weather, we cannot promise. But we can meet you at the door with butter tea and sit with you while you decide whether to rest first or head straight out exploring.
However you prefer to travel, come as you are — we’re happy to have you.
